Little Jimmy Scott”s Falling In Love Is Wonderful was originally released on Ray Charles” Tangerine label in 1963. Quite a nice album was made with arrangements by Gerald Wilson and Marty Paich. Ray Charles played piano by himself, and Jimmy believed it had to succeed.
No sooner did the album come out, however, than Harman Lubinsky, Savoy records” owner, obtained an injunction, claiming Jimmy was still under the exclusive contract to him. Tangerine quickly had to stop the distribution. The album has been unavailable in any form for 39 years, and the few copies of the LP have become very rare and expensive collector”s items since then.
I bought it recently from CD Universe, nice to know it”s available at last.
Jimmy Scott had a long history of his music being neglected, and only when he was in his 70s did he receive widespread recognition..
