I finished ‘Sacred Word/Broken Word’ by Kenton Sparks – that along with Peter Enns’ ‘Incarnation and Inspiration’, Christian Smith ‘Making the Bible Impossible’ and Lawrence Boadt ‘Reading the OT’ pretty much sums up the heretical view of the Bible that I now advocate.
Actually, the Smith book is ‘The Bible Made Impossible’ – he is referring to the fact that having unrealistic expectations of the Bible from inerrantist type positions makes the Bible actually impossible to read with any seriousness, as a result, it becomes kind of an icon or flag instead.
Kenton SparksĀ An implication of my book is that all of us get something wrong. I pray that alongside my errant heresies are the “heresies” of Jesus … Love of God, neighbor and truth
